LG Showcases New Smart Appliances
In early September LG Electronics (LG) exhibited some of the company’s smart appliances at IFA 2011, Europe’s largest consumer electronics conference. What was once fanciful science fiction has become homeowner fact, with smart appliances that can turn your LGI Home into a smart house.
Young-ha Lee, LG Electronics Home Appliance president and CEO explains that European consumers are very responsible when it comes to energy efficiency, so LG is designing products for both that market and the United States. Many of these products were showcased at IFA 2011, which took place in Berlin.
Generating a lot of buzz was LG’s smart refrigerator, which is expected to revolutionize the way customers manage their food. The advanced side-by-side refrigerator combines the world’s first Smart Eco Door with a variety of functions including the Smart Manager, which turns the fridge into a high tech food management system. Consumers can use a panel on the appliance or their smartphones to check what food is inside and those products’ expiration date. Homeowners can also program the Smart Manager`s freshness tracker to notify them when food is past its freshness date. Another feature alerts the homeowner if they are running low on certain items. And if you’re in a rush, a function can suggest meal plans based upon what food is in the refrigerator.
Other smart appliances showcased by LG included a smart washing machine and the Lightwave Oven, each coming with features that can be controlled remotely via smart phone. In addition to being energy efficient, all these appliances are designed to save consumers time and money.
